To visit the Gargano National Park, in Apulia, there is nothing better than Agriturismo Poggio di Luna, surrounded by the country and the typical Mediterranean trees, as pines, oaks, and olives. The Gargano is a promontory including the Foresta Umbra. All the area is protected since 70s and harbor hundreds of wildlife species. It is also a wonderful place to see flowers with over 50 species of orchids.
This agriturismo is located on a hill, so you can admire a beautiful view of the land. In a few minutes you can reach the town of Peschici, an old fishermen village, and enjoy a quite life style, among the old houses and the beaches as well. You can see here many “Trabucchi”, typical wood fishing machines, anchored to the coast.
Agriturismo Poggio di Luna has only five rooms, in order to allow a quite vacation, with few guests.
Every room is unique in size and furniture and has been designed with a country style. From every room, you will enjoy the terrace and a stunning view. In summer you will enjoy also a swimming pool in the garden.
Another great place in Apulia is the city of Otranto, in Salento. To visit this wonderful coast, you can stay at Masseria Sparivento. The building is a manor house founded in Sixteenth Century and recently converted in an amazing agriturismo accommodation. Inside, its strong walls made from stone are softened by warm wood furniture with typical Salento handmade fabrics, furniture, and tools.
From your room, you can easily access the countryside and have a walk among the old olive trees, enjoy the nature and the sun. If you prefer the sea, you can reach the beaches in a few minutes, as Torre Specchia and Torre dell’Orso. These particular beaches are characterized by towers. Along the Apulia coast there are many sighting towers, most of them located in Salento, a great defensive system built to reject Saracen invasions during the Sixteenth Century.
Agriturismo Masseria Spartivento is itself a part of an old tower! This kind of tower was the house of the farm owner (Masseria), but it used to have a sighting function as well.
Visiting Otranto, you can’t miss the Castle. The fortress is the main part of a defensive system formed by walls around the entire city that protected the city for centuries. Today we can still admire the imposing castle and its rooms as hosts cultural events and exhibitions.
During your holiday, the owner Patrizia, will cook a delicious breakfast or dinner for you. She is glad to welcome her guests with traditional recipes of Apulia.
